Coursework Options

One original option task was a music video as it seemed interesting and creative to produce. It would present new challenges but we would overcome them. We seriously considered this as the prelim is based around the music video idea. I am interested in this task as I listen to music pretty much everyday so it looked like a good idea. The idea was on Adele’s Hello song. However, due to unfortunate circumstances (group member leaving) the music video was no longer an option because it required at least three members but we were left with two.

Another option was down the documentary path. It would consist of the change over time in terms of technology. We wouldn’t stop there though; we would incorporate links with music and social media as digital technology has advanced through the years. This topic has been a passion of mine now due to the fact that I am part of the generation who grew up with this fast-moving industry. The documentary would fascinate me but there is only one reason why this option didn’t become a reality. The alternative was just too good.

The other documentary idea that I came up with truly has a place in my heart. I am a typical football fan who loves their team (Chelsea); I had a thought, what am I apart of? Where do I belong within this bear pit of football insanity? Then it came to me, each and every individual supporter belongs to a sort of tribe. There are many physical and mental characteristics that are similar between traditional tribes and football tribes, for instance: both types of tribes apply face paint to demonstrate not only their passion for their belonging but they’re representing their own tribe.

I like to think myself as modest but in this case, the time for that is no more. Skills that I have accumulated through my previous work and experience will - without a doubt – come in handy for this particular task. Some of my skills may include my creative flair that will spark interests and ideas, promoting concepts of significance. In addition, not only my objectivity characteristic, but also my journalistic approach will aid the narrative behind the documentary. This coupled with my analytical mind-set and insightfulness will indeed be necessary through this production process.

No one is perfect, so there are various skills I need to improve on in order to produce this documentary to the highest possible standard. Such skills may include organisation, management, vision etc.
